Current experiments

With our own sleep lab at hand, we are eager to do some science!

Our ongoing experiment investigates how lucid dreams can be induced in the sleep laboratory with a high probability. For this, we try to replicate a study by Erlacher and Stumbrys (2014). Additionally, we do research on the phenomenology of flying in lucid dreams, which is one of the most common acitivities in lucid dreams. So far, almost 20 subjects have spent one or two nights in our laboratory. Some more will follow and we will then try to publish our study in a scientific journal.
We are always open to new ideas! If you have a suggestion for a new experiment or if you want to learn more about sleep by becoming an experimenter of a current experiment, you can warmly invited to join us!

Bachelor's or Master's Thesis

If you are looking for an interesting topic for your thesis, why not try sleep science?
There are dozen of interesting areas in the science of sleep and dream that have not been subject to research yet. Several bachelor's and master's theses have been written at the Institute for Cognitive Science in the field of sleep and dream research in cooperation with our student initiative. If you are interested in writing yours in this area, feel free to contact Kristoffer Appel or come along to one of our meetings.

Where

Experiments are conducted either as home studies or in our new sleep laboratory near the Schloss.
