Who we are
We are approximately 25 students (bachelor and master students) studying at the University of Osnabrück. Most of us study Cognitive Science, but students from other fields are of course always welcome to join our group. Some of us have already gained experiences during internships or as guest researchers, e.g. at the Max-Planck-Institute of Psychiatry in Munich or at the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim as well as employees of a local sleep laboratory. But most of us find the topic of sleep and dream just like that exciting and enjoy exploring it in more detail.
Our group is a so called 'Student Initiative' which means that we are an autonomous part of the student body. We receive a small funding and a room from the AStA of Osnabrück University.
Exemplary questions on our mind
- How can you control your dreams? (lucid dreaming)
- What are the basics of sleep and dream science? (e.g. sleep stages)
- How can you influence your sleep and dreams? (food, drinks, herbs...)
- How do uncommon sleep patterns work? (e.g. polyphasic sleep with 1x 4.5 hrs + 3x 20min every day)
- How can sleep be measured? (sleep laboratory equipment, consumer products)
What we are doing
- “Sleep & Dream & Tea & Chat” informal chat evenings
- Scientific experiments in our own sleep laboratory
- Excursions to other professional sleep laboratories (Osnabrück, Berlin, Helsinki+Turku) and sleep conferences/workshops
- Organize lucid dreaming workshops and other events (e.g. movie night or online dream conference)
- and more...
